The challenge

Heddi Strategies is a boutique consultancy that helps nonprofits, local governments, and purpose-driven organizations turn good intent into strategy that actually moves. The name comes from heddi — a Lao word for doing good — and the work behind it was already strong: years of experience, real results, the kind of client list that comes from doing it right.

What they didn’t have was a place to point people. There was a brand mark and nothing else: no website, no public messaging, no way for the right client to find their way in. The hardest part of that gap isn’t design. It’s language. When your work is strategy — something people can’t see, hold, or photograph — every visitor decides in about eight seconds whether yours is the team that can help them. Get the words wrong and the best work in the room stays invisible.

There was also a clock. They needed to be live — not “in progress,” live — and waiting six weeks for a website meant six weeks of conversations that ended with nowhere to send anyone.

The approach

Messaging first, pixels later

We didn’t start with a layout. We started with questions: who is this for, what keeps them up at night, and what changes for them after Heddi is in the room? The answers were already there — in their heads, in years of client work, in the way they describe the job to a board. They just hadn’t been written down in one place. Our part was to draw them out and give them a shape: a messaging framework covering the audience, the problem, the promise, and the one clear next step.

It resolved to a promise made to the reader rather than a description of the firm — your mission deserves a strategy that actually works — aimed squarely at nonprofit and public-sector leaders navigating complex change. Everything after that had something to be measured against.

Copy shaped together, in their voice

Consulting copy has a gravitational pull toward jargon — capacity building, strategic alignment, holistic frameworks. It’s the fastest way to sound like everyone else. So we worked the pages the way you’d work a draft with a colleague: we’d put language on the table, they’d tell us what rang true and what didn’t, and we’d mold it and hand it back. Round after round, against one test — would their team say this out loud to a director across a table?

What came out of that is theirs, and it’s specific. The Lao principle of heddi — doing good — sits at the center as the reason the firm exists. The three service lines are named in plain terms rather than consultant-speak. The method is laid out as observation, alignment, execution, so a prospective client can see exactly how the work would go. The expertise in those words was never ours. What we brought was an ear for how to say it plainly and the discipline to keep cutting until it landed.

A website built around the mark they already had

The brand mark came with the project, so our job was to build a home that made it look inevitable. The deep indigo, the mint accent, the serif display type, the spacing and rhythm — all drawn out from the mark rather than layered on top of it, so the finished site reads as one intentional identity instead of a template wearing someone else’s logo. It’s fast, it’s accessible, it works on a phone in a parking lot before a board meeting, and it puts the story in the order a visitor actually needs it. The share card gets the same treatment, so a link dropped into a text message or a LinkedIn post arrives looking like the firm it belongs to.

A contact funnel, not a contact page

Most consultancy sites end in a dead-end email address. We built a path instead: every section leads somewhere, and the ask is a specific, low-stakes offer — a 45-minute discovery call, no commitment, just clarity on fit. The form collects what their team needs to walk into that call already prepared: who’s asking, what organization, which area of interest, and what they’re actually navigating. The response commitment is stated up front, in writing, on the page. Fewer tire-kickers, better first calls, and no lead sitting unnoticed in an inbox.

One clear offer, and the response time promised in writing.

Readable by people, parseable by machines

A growing share of first impressions never touch a website. Someone asks an assistant for a nonprofit strategy consultant, and the answer gets assembled from whatever the model can read cleanly. A site that’s hard to parse doesn’t get argued with — it gets left out.

So the build treats machines as a second audience. Schema.org data in the markup states who they are, what they offer, and how to reach them as fact rather than inference. The FAQ is written as real questions with direct answers and marked up as an FAQPage, which is the shape an answer engine can quote. The trust signals are specifics a model can lift verbatim — a 45-minute discovery call, a two-business-day response commitment — instead of adjectives. Every word lives in the HTML, with no content waiting on JavaScript to appear, so a crawler gets the whole page on the first request.

None of that costs the human reader anything. Structure that a model can follow is the same structure a screen reader can follow, and the same structure that makes a page load fast.

Idea to launch in 48 hours

All of it — the messaging work, the rounds on the copy, the build, the funnel, the share card — happened in two days. Not a placeholder page with a launch to follow: the finished site, live at their domain.

That pace isn’t a stunt, and it isn’t corner-cutting. It comes from a studio of two who design and build in the same room, from starting with the message so there’s nothing to redo later, and from writing plain HTML and CSS instead of assembling a stack that has to be fought before it ships. Speed with excellence — the client’s momentum is the point, and every week a site isn’t live is a week of conversations with nowhere to land.

Ongoing support after launch

Launch day is the start of the relationship, not the end of it. Heddi Strategies is on a care plan with us: we keep the site fast, secure, and current, we handle the updates as their services and their story evolve, and when something needs to change they send one message instead of hunting for a developer. They stay focused on the work they’re good at. The technology stays our problem.

The outcome

Two days after the first conversation, Heddi Strategies was live at HeddiStrategies.com with a presence that matches the caliber of the work behind it. The message they’d been living for years was finally written down and sharpened, and the copy sounded like them. The site was built around their mark, the share card holds up when a link gets passed along, and the funnel turns interest into a booked discovery call — over a structure that search engines and AI assistants read correctly.

The mark was theirs, and so was the expertise the words came from. Our part was to draw it out, shape it with them, build the place it lives — fast — and then stay on to keep it running. That last part is where most studios hand over the keys and disappear. We’d rather still be the team they call.
